The Third ACECA Meeting: Work Session



On Sunday, November 24th, members of the ACECA formation team met to focus on preparations for the Tap Root Cultural Exchange Program and the Christmas in Wulai III event. They broke up into their committees to discuss plans and to make commitments. This ensures we will success in our goals for our upcoming events.

The event was blessed with two special guests, Even though they had to leave early, the guests gave the ACECA members an opportunity to get to know them and the status of their participation.

Ying-Mei Jiang is the coordinator of the Tap Root Program at Jinshan Senior High School. She was able to share what the program means to her and her school.

Ming-Yi Wu is a famous author of many books, including "Man With The Compound Eyes." He is a member of ACECA, and has a great interest in environmental protection and indigenous culture.

Volunteer Travel Partners Needed to Join the Maori Delegation


Travel with the Tap Root Cultural Exchange Program

ACECA/ATAYAL is excited to offer an amazing volunteer opportunity to some people who are interested in gaining hands-on experience with an international event. Your transportation, meals and accommodations may be paid for, if you are selected. You will be able to interact with the delegation of Maori film students who are visiting from Auckland, New Zealand to tour Taiwan for 2 weeks between December 3-17, 2013. They will be filming their connection to the indigenous people of Taiwan. They will participate in a forum and workshop to develop future cooperation on projects with indigenous filmmakers in Taiwan.


Learn, share your culture and make lifelong friends.

We need the following travel volunteers for each of the positions:

  • Interpreter 1 - We will need an Chinese/English interpreter to help us translate the guest speaker presentations and workshops for the Maori students. There may be other needs for interpreting as well, during the Maori students travels. It will be helpful if you are legally able to drive a large van in Taiwan.
  • Interpreter 2 - We will need an Chinese/English interpreter to help us translate the guest speaker presentations and workshops for the Maori students. There may be other needs for interpreting as well, during the Maori students travels. It will be helpful if you are legally able to drive a large van in Taiwan.
  • Personal Assistant - We need someone who is fluent in Chinese and English language. This person will gather receipts, make reservations and arrangements, and phone calls to make sure everything goes smoothly. This person will also help me organize the guest speakers, workshops and film festivals. The two interpreters may also assist the Personal Assistant. It will be helpful if you are legally able to drive a large van in Taiwan.
  • Photographer/Videographer - We need someone who is skilled at taking photos and video. This person will document the experience of the exchange program, and work with our film team and the film team from New Zealand to gather footage. At the end of the exchange program, this person will assist in producing a DVD to show the results of the program. It will be helpful if you are legally able to drive a large van in Taiwan.


We may have two vans to transport our travel group, and we may need a driver to help us drive to our required locations.

We need these travel volunteers for each of the following locations during our tour of Taiwan from December 3-17:

  • December 3, 2013 - Taoyuan International Airport - Arrival - 4:00 am
  • December 3-7, 2013 - Taichung - Host: Chaoyang University of Technology
  • December 7-9, 2013 - Wulai District, New Taipei City - Host: Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Artistic Industry Association
  • December 9-12, 2013 - Taitung - Host: Taiwan National Museum of Prehistory
  • December 12-15, 2013 - Hualien - Host: Dong Hwa University
  • December 15-16, 2013 - Taipei - Host: New Taipei Municipal Jin-shan High School
  • December 16, 2013 - Taipei - Visit with Taiwan Indigenous TV and Council for Indigenous Peoples.
  • December 17, 2013 - Taoyuan International Airport - Departure - 11:00 pm

  • NT 45,000 has been provided by the Indigenous Peoples Cultural Foundation to Bridge Studios, our production company in Taiwan that provides support services for ATAYAL/ACECA projects.

We will receive the money from the grants after the project is paid for and finished, and receipts and documentation is provided. This means money is required in advance of the project, before December 3-17, 2013.

We have some corporate donations promised in December, after our project is completed. That doesn't help us now, but it will be beneficial to establish our association and to fund future projects.

Meet the Maori Delegation from AUT - 與來自AUT的毛利代表團會晤

ATAYAL and ACECA are proud to share the indigenous culture of Taiwan with a delegation from the Auckland University of Technology in Aotearoa (New Zealand). They are participants in the Tap Root Cultural Exchange Program, which runs from December 3-17, 2013. Through the program, they will explore the indigenous (Austronesian) culture of Taiwan and share the Maori culture with their Taiwanese hosts.

ATAYAL和ACECA非常榮耀地分享台灣在地文化給來自奧克蘭科技大學的的代表團。他們參與Tap Root的文化交流活動,時間是2013年12月3號到17號。透過這活動,他們將體驗在地的(奧斯處尼斯)的台灣文化,並分享毛利文化給與會的台灣主辦人員。

The Maori delegation will listen to guest speakers and participate in workshops with indigenous Taiwanese students. The objective of the workshops is to learn about the ANZTEC agreement between Taiwan and New Zealand, and discuss this funding opportunity for future cooperative film and television projects between Taiwan and New Zealand. They will also share ideas with their hosts for the development, funding and distribution of future cooperative projects.

毛利的在地文化將聽取聽眾和與在地的台灣學生參與討論。這研討會的目標是學習台灣和紐西蘭間的ANZTEC的協定,並討論未來台灣和紐西蘭的電影和影視計畫的尋求機會。他們將分享這想法給與會的來賓,為了發展尋求和提供未來的合作計畫。

Companies and personal donors have the opportunity to sponsor the program and the Maori during their visit to Taiwan. With their support, the program will support future media cooperation, leading to increased activities between the Maori and the indigenous people of Taiwan, including indigenous tourism and trade. The benefits to Taiwan and New Zealand are long-term.

ACECA is still not yet officially formed, but our sponsored projects still require financial support. We have partnered with the Taiwan Indigenous People Artistic Industry Association, which is an association in Taipei that I am a member of. The association is acting as our agent, or sister association, loaning us their credentials and legal standing, bank account, and the ability to provide tax-deductible receipts to those who give us donations.
